Social Studies - more than just history :)
Social studies is the study of our human society - past and present! The histories of people and regions, geography and the ever changing environment and how it affects a society, and current events all fall under the realm of "social studies". This has to be one of the most fascinating subjects and a place where many students experience "ah-ha!" moments when they finally begin to connect the dots of cause and effect. Parents, too! especially dads, enjoys delving into deep conversations and whitty dialog based around these topics. Don't worry - you don't have to drink from the firehose and digest entire chunks of the timeline in a year! Similar to science, the social studies topics are cyclical and are repeated and deepened throughout a student's K-12 career. But don't let that stop you if the subject is simply your jam! You can make this area of study as rich as you'd like. Here's some helps to lead the way: |
